College president Frances White will not return after the spring semester.

College of Marin president Frances White announced her retirement last month. Faculty and staff were shocked when receiving the news. White's retirement comes one year before the end of her contract.

Since 2004, when White first came to COM, COMs enrollment has jumped and its cash reserves rose from 5 percent to nearly twelve percent.

Her stay at COM wasn't all problem-free. The administration and union haven't been able to agree on a contract since 2007.
White says she plans on spending more time with her family and pursuing other interests. COMs administration will probably start looking for a new president as soon as possible.
