Spring semester - typically a time where applications to transfer are going out to California schools all over. Students often scramble to find 'meaty' addenda for last-minute resume builders to wow admissions panels. Fortunately enough, joining a club here on campus can help an academic transcript look better, it can also help build the on campus community. College of Marin has many clubs that range from Alpha Gamma Sigma Honor Society to The Environmental Action Club. All formed by students with students in mind. Everyone can find a club to join and if there isn't one, it can be created.
Students that are looking to beef up their academic standings can join the Alpha Gamma Sigma Honors Society, or help out fellow students by tutoring in the tutoring center and eventually joining the Tutoring Club. Alpha Gamma Sigma Honors Society is a community college version of the Phi Beta Phi found at many four year institutions. "It promotes and recognize scholastic achievement," said AGS President, Ariel Hudnall, "It offers programs that provide educational, cultural and social enrichment for members and the campus, and arrange volunteer services to the campus and community." In the past, AGS has put on events like books swaps and hosted Transfer Day at the Transfer Center. This semester AGS is looking forward to putting on another blood drive like what happened earlier this month, along with working with Rebuilding Together, a philanthropic non-profit organization, later this semester for a restoration project. Students looking to join AGS only need to be motivated have completed 12 units of college and have maintained a 3.0 GPA, or have a 3.0 GPA from last semester. Any other questions, drop by the AGS Office located on the lower level of the Student Services Building, in room SS 119.
Activist students may opt for the Environmental Action Club; a group of students and teachers that are focused on helping not just the local environment but also the world's environment as a whole. Apart from joining with other local environmental groups for restoration projects, much of the group's activities are about spreading awareness of the environment. This semester "we are planning a large composting effort along with the community garden," said EAC President, Sara Brown, "to help significantly cut methane producing waste from entering the landfill, and thus
