Communist books in the library!
College of Marin's Library adds a pamphlet by J. Edgar Hoover, director of the FBI, entitled "Communist Target Youth." The pamphlet explains infiltration tactics used by the communist party as well as various communist strategies to influence young people. Other books included, "Communism in the U.S." and "The Intellectual Revolt Behind the Iron Curtain."

Cracking down on card players
A new policy for card games is proposed due to the excessive problem card playing and student gambling has caused. It was proposed that a designated room should be specifically and solely for card playing and that gambling would not be tolerated. In addition, an individual or group caught gambling will be referred to the administration for violating state law.

Times staffers take 9 awards at JAJC conference
College of Marin Times' staff won 9 awards at the 13th annual Journalism Association of Junior Colleges Conference held in Fresno, California. There were 450 journalism students from 49 junior colleges. COM's staff competed for mail-in and on-the-spot awards and tied for third top award winner.

Members of COM's basketball team go to prison
College of Marin's basketball coach Jim Webster and the recreational director at San Quentin, Jim Chiminiello, set up an exhibition game between COM's students and inmates at San Quentin Prison. Jim Webster has previously taught and lectured at San Quentin Prison.

Vote count discrepancy voids student election
A substitute student election is held after discrepancies arise in the initial election. There were 166 ballots counted, yet, according to the roster, there were only 160 students who registered to vote.
