The board of trustees has come to a decision in the search for a new college president nine months after the former president Jim Middleton packed his bags. Current Skyline College President Frances L. White was named College of Marin's new superintendent/president on March 23. White has worked in a variety of senior roles in five of California's community colleges. She takes up her new job on July 1.

"I am very pleased to have been selected to serve as the next superintendent/president for the Marin Community College District," said White. "I am looking forward to this new beginning and working with the board of trustees, faculty, staff and students to provide outstanding programs and services that meet the needs of Marin County residents now and in the future."

White has served as president of Skyline College for more than four years. Faculty and staff at Skyline College describe White's management style as "consultative, approachable, warm and down to earth."

"We are very pleased to announce this appointment and believe the experience, knowledge and collaborative management style White brings to the position will enable the entire college community to work together in a new spirit of cooperation," said Wander Treanor, president of COM's board of trustees. "The board looks forward to the full support of all our constituent groups...We will all work with our new president in a spirit of cooperation and mutual respect."

White has a Ph.D. in education administration from the UC Berkeley and a master's degree in counseling psychology and bachelor's degree in psychology from California State University, Hayward. She is a community college graduate and earned an associate degree in general education from Merritt College in Oakland.

Her experience within community colleges spans several roles including executive vice chancellor at City College of San Francisco, interim chancellor of the San Jose/Evergreen Community College District and academic dean at Evergreen College in San Jose and Laney College in Oakland.

White was a full-time faculty member in the Peralta Community College District. Her faculty experience also includes service as chairperson of the psychology department, director of tutorial services, director of learning resources and E.O.P.S., a vice president of the California Federation of Teachers, president of the Peralta Federation of Teachers and a member of the Academic Senate.
