Swimmer puts past behind, team first

Road to addiction recovery may lead Aaron Waters to championship meet

Swimmer Aaron Waters pulled himself out of the Indian Valley Campus pool last Saturday during a balmy afternoon swim meet. An outstretched arm had just won him the 100-yard intermediate medley by four hundredths of a second, and the 19-year-old looked at COM's coach, Warren Lager, to check his time.

College of Marin lost its regular season opener 9-5 to Solano College on March 5. The Mariners fell behind early, but rallied to tie thanks to a leadoff single and a couple of walks, capped by a two RBI hit from third baseman Nick Baldocchi. A big top of the sixth, however, put Solano ahead for good, despite productive outings from Baldocchi, who ended up with three hits and three RBIs, and Abel Gonzales, who smashed a homerun and a single.
