College of Marin's board of trustees voted 7-0 to delay picking an architect for the new academic center, sometimes called the gateway building, after hearing several hours of comments during its Feb. 16 meeting at the Indian Valley Campus. Most of the remarks came from Kentfield residents like Deborah Haberman, who worried the community around campus had been left out of the decision-making process.

The walls of the current fine arts building cannot mute the clattering hammers, welders, and a giant crane-all of which industriously contribute to a three story edifice outside- but noise is not what irks Bell about the nearby project.
On Feb. 16 Laura Maatz, an anatomy and physiology tutor at College of Marin died. She is survived by her husband John Hill of San Rafael and her son Mark Gregory Maatz. Ms. Maatz was known for being highly dedicated to her students and their progress. Colleagues say she was committed to making the tutoring experience for every student as high quality as possible.
