In the days leading up to his departure for Iraq fifteen months ago, Aaron Augustis sat in his barren bedroom staring at a television screen. He watched footage of missiles and soldiers in Kuwait running through drills in preparation for a chemical attack. He sat with only his backpack, duffel bag and television. His room was empty because he sold much of his furniture and gave the rest away. While watching the screen, the reality of what he was about to experience hit him.
Wanted: women athletes for College of Marin women's athletics. Needed: more women's athletics. About 114 male student-athletes were involved with the athletics department during the 2004 to 2005 academic year, which is in stark contrast to the 19 women who participated. However, that year women's basketball had been discontinued due to low enrollment; it was re-instated in 2005. The projection for 2005 to 2006 is 114 men and 35 women.
The drama department's silent auction, set up to run hand in hand with the department's production of "Fences" is off and running. The project came to life as a way to raise funds for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. "We're just hoping we can do our part to raise a little money and help these folks." Robin Jackson, department secretary and co-coordinator of the event said.
